Terms of service
Effective October 4, 2026. Please read these terms before using the site or requesting a quote.
Effective date: October 4, 2026 Last updated: October 4, 2026
Important: Nothing on this website is insurance coverage. A quote request is not an application, and a quote is not a policy or a binder. Coverage begins only when an insurance company agrees in writing to issue a policy, any required premium is paid, and the policy’s terms are met. After a significant earthquake, insurers often stop writing new earthquake policies for a period of time.
1. Who we are and acceptance of these Terms
CheapEarthquakeInsurance.com (the “Site”) is a website operated by Rebecca Byrom Insurance Agency, Inc. d/b/a Jump Insurance Services, California Insurance License #0L75450 (“Jump,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Site, including its pages, calculators, quote forms, and the communications that follow from them.
By using the Site or submitting a quote request, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy (https://cheapearthquakeinsurance.com/privacy-policy/). If you do not agree, please do not use the Site. Extra terms may apply to a specific quote, application, e-signature, payment, or policy. If they conflict with these Terms, the specific terms control for that transaction.
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Site to request insurance. If you submit information for a business, trust, association, or another person, you confirm that you are authorized to do so.
2. Our role and licensing
Jump is a licensed California insurance producer and an independent agency. We are not an insurance company and we do not issue policies. Depending on the insurer and the transaction, we act as an insurance agent of the insurer or as a broker on your behalf. Your quote, application, or policy documents will identify the insurer.
We work with the California Earthquake Authority (CEA) through its participating insurers, and with a number of private insurance companies. We do not represent every insurer that writes earthquake insurance in California, and we cannot guarantee that the insurers we work with will offer you coverage.
This Site serves property located in California. Products, insurers, and coverage options vary by property, location, and underwriting rules, and not every option is available for every property.
How we are paid. We are usually paid a commission by the insurer when a policy is sold or renewed. If we charge a broker fee for any placement, we will disclose it to you in writing and get your agreement before you pay it, as California law requires.
3. Information on the Site is general, not advice
The articles, FAQs, comparison tables, cost ranges, deductible calculator, and other content on the Site are general information and examples only. They are not legal, tax, financial, engineering, or retrofit advice, and they do not change the terms of any insurance policy.
- Examples and calculators are illustrations. Deductible examples, sample comparisons, and price ranges are simplified to show how earthquake insurance generally works. Actual claim payments follow each policy’s limits, deductibles, sublimits, exclusions, and conditions.
- Coverage descriptions are summaries. Descriptions of CEA and private-market coverage (including deductible options, limits, contents, loss of use, and items such as pools or masonry veneer) are general and may change. The actual policy controls.
- Market statements describe our usual practice. Statements about the number of insurers we quote, insurer financial-strength ratings, and quote turnaround times describe our usual practice and current markets. They are not guarantees for your property. Financial-strength ratings are issued by independent rating agencies, not by us.
- Retrofit and discount information is general. Information about retrofit discounts, seismic retrofit grant programs, and similar programs is general. Eligibility and amounts are set by the program or insurer.
- Statistics come from public sources that may be revised.
Please read your policy and ask us if you have questions about your own coverage needs.
4. “Cheap” is part of our name
“Cheap” is part of the CheapEarthquakeInsurance.com brand. It is not a promise of the lowest price, a particular premium, or the broadest coverage. Prices depend on the property, location, construction, coverage limits, the deductible you choose, insurer underwriting, and market conditions. A lower premium often means a higher deductible or less coverage, so we encourage you to compare options carefully.
5. Quotes, applications, and coverage
5.1 A quote request is not an application
Submitting a quote request through the Site asks us to look for options for you. It does not apply for, bind, renew, or change insurance.
5.2 Quotes are estimates
Any quote, premium, comparison, or estimate we give you is based on the information available at the time. It may change after the insurer verifies information, inspects or values the property, reviews loss history or other underwriting data, or finalizes the coverage you select. A quote is not an offer to insure unless the insurer says so in writing.
5.3 Coverage is subject to underwriting
Every policy is subject to the insurer’s underwriting rules and approval. The insurer, not Jump, decides whether to offer coverage, the price, the policy terms, and whether to renew or cancel, and it pays claims.
5.4 No coverage until confirmed in writing
You may not rely on the Site, a form submission, voicemail, email, chat, or text message as proof that you have coverage. Coverage exists only when the insurer, or someone with the insurer’s authority, confirms it in writing, any required premium is paid, and the policy’s conditions are met. Do not cancel existing coverage until new coverage is confirmed in writing.
5.5 Earthquake moratoriums and timing
After a significant earthquake, insurers often stop accepting new earthquake applications or coverage changes for a period of time, and some policies have waiting periods. A quote request does not lock in the right to buy coverage during a moratorium.
5.6 Your information must be accurate
You agree to give complete, accurate, and current information and to correct it promptly if it changes. This includes the property address, year built, construction and foundation type, occupancy, values, prior damage, and retrofit status. Inaccurate or missing information can change a quote and can lead to denial, cancellation, rescission, or reduced or denied claim payments under the policy.
6. California Earthquake Authority (CEA) policies
The California Earthquake Authority is a publicly managed, privately funded, not-for-profit organization that offers residential earthquake insurance in California. Jump is not the CEA and is not owned by or affiliated with it.
- Participating insurers only. CEA residential earthquake policies are available only through insurance companies that participate in the CEA. Generally, you must have, or buy, an underlying homeowners, condominium, mobilehome, or renters policy from a participating insurer to get a CEA policy.
- What we can quote. We can quote or place a CEA policy for you only where your underlying residential policy is, or will be, written by a participating insurer through which we can offer CEA coverage. If that is not possible, we will tell you, and we can show you private-market options.
- CEA terms. CEA policies have their own coverage options, deductibles, limits, and required disclosures, which are provided with the CEA quote or policy. The CEA policy documents control.
7. Private, admitted, and surplus lines insurers
Some earthquake insurance is written by “admitted” insurers, which are licensed by the California Department of Insurance. Some, most often for commercial property, is written by “non-admitted” or surplus lines insurers.
Surplus lines notice. If we place your coverage with a non-admitted (surplus lines) insurer:
- The insurer is not licensed by the State of California and is not subject to the state’s full financial and rate regulation.
- The policy is not protected by the California Insurance Guarantee Association (CIGA). If the insurer becomes insolvent, CIGA will not pay your claims or return your premium.
- California surplus lines tax and stamping fees apply and will be shown on your quote or invoice.
- The California surplus lines disclosures required by the Insurance Code (including section 1764.1) will be provided with your quote or application. You may be asked to sign them.
Please read the surplus lines disclosures carefully before you buy coverage.
8. Claims
If you have a loss, report it directly to your insurer using the instructions in your policy, and follow your policy’s duties after a loss, such as protecting property from further damage and keeping records. We are glad to help you find the right claims contact. However, a message to us through the Site, email, or text is not notice of a claim to the insurer, and it does not meet any policy deadline. The insurer decides whether a loss is covered. In an emergency, call 911.
9. Text messages (SMS/MMS)
9.1 How you opt in
Our quote forms include an optional, unchecked box for agreeing to receive text messages. If you check it, you agree that Jump Insurance Services (CheapEarthquakeInsurance.com) may send text messages, including messages sent with automated technology, to the mobile number you entered. You do not have to agree to texts to get a quote or buy insurance.
9.2 What we text about
If you opt in, our first text is usually sent right after you submit the form to confirm we received your request. After that, we may text about your quote (follow-up questions, missing information, quote results, and reminders), any related quote you asked for (such as homeowners or commercial property insurance), and service of a policy you buy through us (documents, payment and renewal reminders, and lender requests).
9.3 Program terms
- Message frequency varies.
- Message and data rates may apply.
- Reply STOP to opt out at any time. We may send one message confirming your opt-out.
- Reply HELP for help, or call 858-295-7242 or email agency.services@jumpins.com.
- Consent to receive texts is not a condition of purchase of any insurance, or of getting a quote.
- Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
- We do not sell or share mobile numbers, text-message opt-in data, or consent records with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing.
Only text us from a phone number you own or are authorized to use. Tell us if you change or give up that number. Do not use text messages to report a claim, ask to bind, change, or cancel coverage, or send sensitive information such as Social Security or bank account numbers. A coverage request is not complete until you receive written confirmation. Opting out of texts does not cancel a policy or a quote request, and we may still contact you by phone, email, or mail.
10. Calls, email, and electronic records
When you submit a quote request or contact us, you agree that we may contact you by phone and email about your request. Marketing email will include a way to unsubscribe.
You agree that electronic records and electronic signatures may be used for transactions with us where the law allows. Some insurance documents can be delivered electronically only with your separate consent. If so, we or the insurer will ask for that consent and explain how to get paper copies and how to withdraw consent.
11. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy (https://cheapearthquakeinsurance.com/privacy-policy/) explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information, including our use of advertising tools and your choices, such as Your Privacy Choices and Global Privacy Control. The Privacy Policy is part of these Terms.
12. Acceptable use
You may use the Site only for lawful purposes related to learning about or getting insurance. You may not:
- Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information, or submit someone else’s information without permission.
- Interfere with the Site or its security, introduce malware, or try to access systems or data you are not authorized to access.
- Use bots, scrapers, crawlers, or other automated means to copy, collect, or monitor Site content or data without our written permission. Public search engines may index public pages according to our robots instructions.
- Copy, reproduce, republish, frame, or commercially use Site content, or use it to build a competing product or train an AI model, without our written permission.
- Use the Site in any way that violates insurance, privacy, consumer-protection, or other laws.
We may suspend or block access to protect the Site, our customers, or others.
13. Intellectual property
The Site and its content, including text, graphics, the deductible calculator and other tools, the CheapEarthquakeInsurance.com name and logo, and the selection and arrangement of content, are owned by Rebecca Byrom Insurance Agency, Inc. or its licensors and are protected by law. Photographs are licensed from third parties and may not be copied or reused. We give you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to view and use the Site for your own personal or internal business purpose of evaluating insurance. No other rights are granted. Insurer names and marks belong to their owners. Mentioning an insurer or the CEA does not mean it endorses us.
Copyright concerns. If you believe something on the Site infringes your copyright, email agency.services@jumpins.com. Identify the work, the material on the Site and where it appears, and your contact information. Include a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized, and a statement under penalty of perjury that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner. Sign it.
14. What you submit
You keep ownership of the information and documents you submit. You allow us, and the insurers and service providers involved in your request, to use, copy, store, and send that information as needed to respond to you, quote and service insurance, comply with law, and protect our rights. Please submit only information you are authorized to provide.
15. Third-party services and links
The Site uses or links to services run by others, such as Cognito Forms for our quote forms, Google Maps address suggestions, insurer websites, payment and e-signature services, and our affiliated insurance websites. Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them. The address-suggestion feature in our forms is provided by Google. By using it you agree to the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service (maps.google.com/help/terms_maps/) and acknowledge the Google Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
16. Site availability and changes
We may change, suspend, or stop any part of the Site at any time. We do not promise that the Site will always be available, error-free, or current. Insurer systems, outages, and events beyond our control, including earthquakes, may affect availability and response times.
17. Disclaimer of warranties
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SITE, ITS CONTENT, AND ITS TOOLS ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY. THIS INCLUDES WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AND UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY QUOTE, ESTIMATE, CALCULATION, COVERAGE SUMMARY, OR THIRD-PARTY DATA IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE, CURRENT, OR RIGHT FOR YOUR NEEDS. THIS SECTION DOES NOT LIMIT ANY DUTY WE OWE YOU AS A LICENSED INSURANCE PRODUCER UNDER CALIFORNIA LAW, OR ANY WARRANTY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE DISCLAIMED.
18. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, REBECCA BYROM INSURANCE AGENCY, INC. AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, LICENSORS, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OR BUSINESS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SITE, YOUR RELIANCE ON SITE CONTENT OR TOOLS, THIRD-PARTY SERVICES, OR DELAYED OR UNDELIVERED COMMUNICATIONS.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THE SITE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US DIRECTLY FOR USE OF THE SITE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) $100.
These limits do not apply where the law does not allow them. They do not limit any duty we owe you as a licensed insurance producer under California law, and they do not change the rights and obligations between you and an insurer under an insurance policy.
19. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Rebecca Byrom Insurance Agency, Inc. and its officers, directors, employees, agents, and service providers from third-party claims, losses, and reasonable costs (including attorneys’ fees) arising from your misuse of the Site, your violation of these Terms or the law, or information you submit without authority. This does not require you to cover our own negligence or misconduct.
20. Governing law and venue; no arbitration
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where federal law applies. Any lawsuit about the Site or these Terms must be brought in the state or federal courts located in San Diego County, California, and you and we consent to the jurisdiction of those courts. These Terms do not require arbitration and do not waive your right to a jury trial. If an insurance policy or another agreement contains its own dispute-resolution terms, those terms govern disputes within their scope.
21. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Site at any time. We may suspend or end your access to the Site if we reasonably believe it is needed to protect the Site or others, to investigate misuse, or to comply with law. Sections that by their nature should continue (including Sections 3, 4, 13, 14, 17 through 20, and 23) survive.
22. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms by posting a new version on this page and changing the “Last updated” date. Changes apply from their effective date forward and do not affect a quote or policy already in place. If you keep using the Site after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms.
23. General
These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement about your use of the Site. They do not amend any insurance policy or other signed agreement. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer these Terms without our written consent. We may transfer them in connection with a merger, reorganization, or sale of our business. Headings are for convenience only.
